The Daily Chronicle of My Life (Part 7)

The best way to summarize today would be going from good to bad to worse to worser. I knew I should have stayed in bed when the radio said that the temperature outside was 38 degrees below zero. Nevertheless, I got up and out of bed. The classes this morning were fairly interesting, actually, but I don’t remember a thing from Controls, but it wasn’t too bad. Lunch was, as usual on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, was rushed, but I had time. I took the bus over to Striebel hall where Data Structures is. The back door was frozen shut. I managed to melt a clear patch on the window by blowing on it. It actually stayed clear, if distorted after it refroze, unlike the areas people wiped with gloves and hands.

This is where things start to go bad. Data Structures was a complete and total waste of time. She just went on and on and on and on about calculating the execution time of recursive algorithms. I was bored out of my mind and couldn’t understand the words she was saying most of the time. And I’m a techie! At least I accomplished something by doing most of my Electronics Lab prelab during class.

Then, the bus I was going to take was overcrowded, so I had to wait for the next one. At least that one was going around campus in the opposite direction of the other one. I still would have got to the engineering complex earlier on the other bus, but at least I could stand in a nice, warm building for a while. When I got to the engineering complex, I built the circuit for the lab tomorrow and went back to my room. I played a computer game for a while and vented. I also looked at the forecast and worried.

After I ate dinner, things went to worse. My car wouldn’t start. It just cranked two or three times, each weaker and slower than the last and just stopped. I called in to see what to do. They told me, less than politely, but not rudely, that I had to get in. So I managed to get a ride from Michelle. I was about 15 minutes late to work.

Now things get worser. If it could go wrong at work, it did. There is no experience like pushing carts in with a –50 wind chill. I was exhausted after that. I went on my break at about 8:05. I was reminded afterwards, that you aren’t supposed to get a break if you don’t work 4 hours, which I wouldn’t be because I was late. At that point, I made a decision. I was going to quit this job no matter what anyone said. I will be doing it on Friday, assuming I get the paper grader job I put in for. Otherwise, I will as soon as I can find an on campus job. Also, my hands started bleeding from the dry air and extreme cold. I put lotion on them when I got back and they feel better now.

I had the privilege of cleaning the customer bathroom for my evening job. It wasn’t too bad, at least. I got off just after 10, and called Jonathan, to come get me. I waited. And waited. Then, at about 10:30. Michelle showed up to get me. She was with the person she was taking to class when she gave me a ride to work. Jonathan couldn’t get his car started again. Finally got back at about 10:50. I made a personal pizza I bought after work for the weekend, but I was hungry NOW. It was good. And warm. It’s supposed to be similar tomorrow for the temperature, but at least I only have the ethics class and a lab. And tomorrow night is the Un-birthday party. I have to decide if I’m going to go to Intervarsity or the Un-birthday party tomorrow, but I think the party is going to win, just because I won’t have to go outside to go to that.
